Well, this time next week I’ll be winging my way to Cape Town via Auckland and Singapore (air transport is weird sometimes), so this is my last beat post of the year. My animal bucket list hasn’t changed much either, for similar reasons. I need to see some of these before I can replace them with other animals.

The Central Catchment Nature Reserve in Singapore is a huge area that covers over 2,000 hectares of forest. As with many of the nature reserves in Singapore they do tend to be busier on Sundays and also close to the car-parks, but beyond that you can walk alone in the forest. The reason Borneo lends itself to this type of birding holiday is that tourism in Borneo leans towards outdoorsy, wildlife based tourism anyway. Contrast this in Asia to, say, Singapore, Hong Kong or Bangkok, all of which have great birding nearby but are destinations people go to for reasons other than wildlife.
