New England Reptile Distributers just released a video explaining a terrible incident involving the FWC (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission). FWC officers arrived at a reptile facility and forcefully killed 29 reticulated pythons, 5 Burmese pythons, and 1 pregnant Boa constrictor.

That did not stop a New Jersey animal shelter from publishing this rabble-rousing flyer on Facebook, all written in alarming red capital letters: PARK RANGERS AND VET OFFICES ARE PUTTING OUT WARNINGS. THESE ARE THE PETS THAT HAWKS CAN SWOOP DOWN AND GRAB.

If you want to know what happened on August 31, 1984, I can name at least one event: In the Padang-Sugihan Wildlife Reserve in South Sumatra province, a Large Frogmouth was mobbed by a Greater Racket-tailed Drongo, as described here. He was also nearly strangled by a pet python that he kept.

9): The Fish and Wildlife Service is right to propose a ban on the sale of nine large constricting snakes for the pet trade. There is a list of human victims of captive snakes, including a 2-year-old girl who was strangled in her crib by a pet Burmese python who had escaped from its enclosure.
