I have been rescuing animals, both wild and domestic, since I was a child. I’ve rescued field mice to horses, and everything in between. I have received countless numbers of wild birds mangled and/or killed by outdoor/feral cats, such as the Orange-crowned Warbler pictured here. It sickens me. Is it the fault of the cats?

They've prohibited feeding and want the animals trapped. If they are not adoptable, oh well, kill them. It is NOT the animals' fault that they have been abandoned to miserable lives. (Of We worry about wildlife, disease and nuisance animals.” Feral cats may be an animal problem, but there is a human solution.

In responding to Suzie’s post defending wildlife rehabilitation I began to think again about the areas in which animal rights and animal welfare overlap with the field of conservation, and the ways in which they don’t. Not from an environmental perspective but from a “don’t you like animals?”

Almost every single outdoor pet cat, feral cat, or stray kills other animals , no matter how well fed the cat is through other sources. Trap-neuter-release programs sound nice and let folks think that they are doing good but they actually often add to the problem , and never reach the goal of zero feral cats in an area.

They are all wonderful people and they are all animal lovers. But I’ve learned we love animals in very different ways. It started with donation requests for spay and neutering cats but then quickly transferred to a trap, neuter and release organization. I have mixed feelings about TNR. Birds cats indoors'
