Let's deconstruct the concept: Do you think that people who have spent their lives harming animals by eating them, just like I did and much of my family still does, deserve a second chance? Is fighting and killing dogs the same thing? Is what he did like hunting? If they were pigs, would anyone care? Like skinning a mink?

I immensely enjoyed "EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED" (even on the big screen) and eagerly anticipated "EATING ANIMALS" by Jonathan Safran Foer. Finally, if you know someone who gravitates toward the philosophical issues around our use of animals, this is a good book. Ever, in fact. Not great, but good. Imagine being served a plate of sushi.

Is what he did consciously to his pitbulls that much worse than what we do unconsciously to animals every day? Some of us forget that dogs are mere animals, and that animal mistreatment is as American as Apple iPods. Like Vick, most of us shamelessly abuse and kill animals. None of us is pure.

Code, Title 18.48, made it a federal crime to knowingly create, sell, or possess a depiction of animal cruelty with the intention of placing that depiction in interstate or foreign commerce for commercial gain. Is the NYTimes right to support striking down the law banning depictions of animal cruelty on First Amendment/free speech grounds?
