People have moved useful plants and animals around with them as long as they had the wit to do so. So that New Zealand would end up with quite a few species of animal not originally found here is hardly surprising of itself. Possums still strip our native forests, ferrets and stoats and possums still devastate our native birds.

That’s one reason, probably the biggest reason, why we don’t have centennials for animals that become extinct in the wild. Because if it doesn’t there are no second chances (Black-footed Ferret aside.). Turns out, from what I could find, not particularly ceremonious. Then the 80s happened. Will it work?
