New England Reptile Distributers just released a video explaining a terrible incident involving the FWC (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission). FWC officers arrived at a reptile facility and forcefully killed 29 reticulated pythons, 5 Burmese pythons, and 1 pregnant Boa constrictor.

Neighbor B’s cats are constantly on neighbor A’s property, urinating and defecating all over her garden, spreading disease, maiming and killing the birds who flock to her feeders. Neighbor A’s private property and peace of mind are both suffering because of the cats, which are killing government-protected species. What can she do?

If you want to know what happened on August 31, 1984, I can name at least one event: In the Padang-Sugihan Wildlife Reserve in South Sumatra province, a Large Frogmouth was mobbed by a Greater Racket-tailed Drongo, as described here. At between 4 pm and 6 pm, to be exact. Back to birds. Lucky him, right? Though he ended up dead anyway.

Tell me, what happens if we rip away hunting when hunting protects more wildlife land in Africa than national parks? Although lip service was paid to the fact that lions are endangered and a lion was poached, the language of anger was the language of animals rights. This is of course an anathema for many in the animal rights camp.

They are all wonderful people and they are all animal lovers. But I’ve learned we love animals in very different ways. But I don’t agree with the supplemental feeding that happens with feral cats–if you’re gonna call them wildlife, treat them as such. We see several different types of species.
