Nearly 30,000 of these acres is set aside as dry wilderness habitat for other birds, animals and other various living creatures. Much like my visit to Malheur NWR, the actual wet Land areas are flooded once the cooperative farming is over.

The Cattle Egret Expansion

They feed on insects stirred up by the herds, at times sitting on the animal itself picking off ticks and other insects. While equally at home among cattle and elephants in areas where neither are available it has adopted airports, where they feed on insects that get stirred up by passing planes.

Birding Borneo with Non Birders

For good reasons the paths are not open if there are no flowers, and this limits visitors to a busy mountain road, although there is a small orchid and butterfly farm on the road up. Never did see an elephant though). The truly lucky might see Bornean Clouded Leopards or the endemic Flat-faced Cat at night.
