I had never been to Colombia before so didn’t know the best birding spots in the vicinity of the capital. What’s more, they host quite a number of endemics, both animal and plant. The whole landscape seemed like something from a Jules Verne novel with weird-looking plants and strange creatures never gazed upon by human eyes.

During our time travels, we would note vast changes in many other birds and animals. Part of that recognition is assessing which types of plants and animals are more threatened than others.

Andean condors are vultures and feed exclusively on “carrion” dead animals. It is true that condors eat dead animals. It is also true that condors will spot cows and other livestock giving birth and guard the animal to be there and take advantage of the placenta and other leftovers.
