For the Birds: Midway Atoll Mouse Eradication and NEPA

The Northwestern Hawaiian Islands are home to some of the largest assemblages of breeding seabirds in the United States. Because Midway is home to endangered species ( e.g. , Laysan Duck, Hawaiian Monk Seal), FWS must also comply with the Endangered Species Act (ESA). This will focus on the requirements of NEPA.

I say almost because that particular distinction actually falls to another New Zealand bird, the Black Robin, of which there were once just four (including just one breeding female). Or stepping on the animal by accident (this is actually a problem even for trained biologists as Kakapo look like vegetation and live amongst vegetation).
