Most of the usual birds seem present, a frog or two call from a small wetland, and a few other expected animals are there too. During our time travels, we would note vast changes in many other birds and animals. Part of that recognition is assessing which types of plants and animals are more threatened than others.

However, even within Brazil, very few people are aware of Brazil’s Cerrado: a biome of expansive grasslands dotted with termite mounds, lightly wooded savannas, and ribbons of gallery forest along permanent sources of water. A pair of birds was lovingly caressing each other, culminating in copulation.

in Animal Ecology. His summers during college were spent as a biological technician, monitoring breeding birds for Point Reyes Bird Observatory in Eastern Oregon, and also five seasons in Black Hills, SD, working for the Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory. Over time the hobby grew into a career.

One of the two sub-species of Red Knot occurring in North America, the Rufa subspecies breeds in the Canadian Artic Region and migrates along the east or Atlantic coast of the United States. The other sub-species, Calidris canutus roselaari , migrates along the Pacific Coast and breeds in Alaska and the Wrangel Island in Russia.
