A restaurant owner who put lion burgers on the menu in honor of the World Cup has felt a roar of anger from outraged animal rights activists. But the burgers also attracted international attention and the scorn of animal rights activists, who picketed outside the restaurant.

Last week there was a slew of articles about the agreement in Ohio between the farm industry and animal welfare activists to expand cage sizes for calves (veal), hens and pigs. Similar limits were approved last year in Michigan and less sweeping restrictions have been adopted in Florida, Arizona and other states.

Interviewer: "Wait, so you want to abolish animal cruelty, except for chickens and fish, (pointing at the contestant) because she doesn't like them?". I think you actually support animal cruelty." Contestant: "Nope. Well, sort of.

We went to graduate school together at the University of Arizona. Years later, after he had gone off to teach at Northern Illinois University and I had gone off to teach at the University of Texas at Arlington, we discovered that we had a shared interest in animal rights. Mylan worked in epistemology. I worked in ethics.

Someone entered the premises of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum , cut the lock on the bighorn sheep exhibit, and shot the male bighorn to death. Needless to say, animal-rights and other groups are up in arms. There was a senseless killing last night. Then—and here's the grisly part—the assailant cut the sheep's head off.

My original interest was narrow: animal rights. After arriving at the University of Arizona to attend graduate school [in August 1983], my interests expanded even further, into other branches of philosophy. Originally, I said, I was focused on animals. As I explained to Clark, I came at philosophy in an odd way.
