Animals for research purposes are coming from municipal shelters, breeders and the greyhound trade. In 2007, 394 dogs died during procedures for canine and human research. None of the animal shelters contacted by the Herald Sun have come across ex-research dogs in need of a home.

Quick work on the part of the Animal Welfare Institute (AWI), in partnership with the Humane Society of the U.S. and more than a dozen animal shelters and rescues[1] succeeded in placing all of the rescued animals, offering hope that they will find loving homes and solace after their ordeal.

There was a poster in the lunch room with four cute animals (a dog, cat, rabbit and something else.) It reminded me of an adoption poster at the animal shelter. But when I got closer, I read, "Animal research opens minds." Tags: animal experimentation mice Guinea Pigs medical research biotech.
