This became clear from a report addressed at the European Parliament (EP) session on May 5–7, which seeks to vote on a directive concerning animal research. My personal philosophy is that millions of animals shouldn't suffer on anyone's behalf, especially when they do so against their will.

Researchers can continue most experiments on mankind's closest relatives -- chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans -- after European Union lawmakers watered down proposals to restrict testing. Nothing, nothing makes me angrier than animal researchers. They have no qualms about what they do. Maybe you'll feel some guilt about it.

Europe banned the use of great apes in animal testing Wednesday as part of drastically tightened rules to scale back the number of animals used in scientific research. And they must work at "reducing levels of pain inflicted on animals.". From the AFP.
