The point is, the field guide I grabbed without hesitation was the National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America, 7th Edition by Jon L. North America is defined as from north of the Mexican border to the far north, plus “adjacent islands and seas within 200 nautical miles off the coast or offshore islands.”

Since 2016, the Glengoyne Distillery has been a corporate supporter of research and conservation efforts by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust to study and counter the decline of the “Greenland” Greater White-fronted Goose in the face of threats like climate change.

A little bit of research when I got home unraveled the ways of publishers here and in Great Britain. The accounts aim for specificity and authority; dates and locations of rarity sightings are given, and research articles on nesting and behavior are cited. Even during the breeding season the birds appear to be quite unwary of humans.
