Jumping out of my “Beat” today

Let me start off with being quite clear, there are no grizzly Bears on the Baja! I am actually jumping out of my assigned beat area, to share some photos from my trip to Kodiak Island Alaska. All of which, was for one a one day shoot with the famed bears, as they dined on the fall salmon run. Common Redpoll.

The National Wildlife Refuge System: Birders Leading the Way

The vast majority of this area (about 85%) is in Alaska. Farallon NWR , a group of islands near San Francisco, hosts the largest colonies of breeding seabirds south of Alaska. But when taken as a whole, the impact of the Refuge System is truly profound, supporting population-level numbers of numerous bird species.

And it’s a wrap….

I must have keep 400 images in the file of just this one species. This late evening photo of an American Avocet is one of my all time favorites of this species. While in Kodiak Alaska, I did get a few very nice Kodiak Grizzly Bear shots. This large bear was chasing salmon, and paid me little or no attention.
