The antwren had been elevated to species level and Hilton is just a sucker for anything Paulista, and besides, who needs a reason to go birding? His collection was impressive and overwhelmingly illegal so he will remain unnamed too. This is a fantastic initiative by BirdLife South Africa.

This ruled out some excellent species like Cape Eagle Owl, Violet Wood-hoopoe, African Finfoot and Half-collared Kingfisher and I was still left with 36 species. So I decided to impose a few rules.

Next, came small flocks of Red-fronted Parrots screeching overhead with the odd African Grey thrown in for good measure. Chocolate-backed Kingfisher , sometimes seen from the canopy walkway Woodland Kingfisher – A very common species, but always a pleasure! Truly fantastic.
