In three cases of adoption the common factor was that the adopting individual was sexually attracted to one of the real parents of the young. On the other hand, their preferred food is blood, and they also feed on it directly, pecking at a mammal’s wounds to keep them open ( source ).

The snake had no puncture wounds, and was released 24 hours later. Key West Wildlife Center takes mostly birds, but will rescue mammals, marine mammals, and both land and sea turtles as well. KWWC captures injured, sick or orphaned wild chickens, then adopts them out to homes on the mainland.
