In mammals, maggots eat only dead tissue and are occasionally used to debride wounds. If there is an entrance wound, there is an exit wound. Her abdominal wound looked good … or as good as a horrific wound could look. Luckily, this wound was not as severe. We had to find it. Her wings were perfect.

The snake had no puncture wounds, and was released 24 hours later. Key West Wildlife Center takes mostly birds, but will rescue mammals, marine mammals, and both land and sea turtles as well. Tom picked them both up, put them in a carrier, and took them back to the clinic, where he and Peggy managed to pry them apart.

On the other hand, their preferred food is blood, and they also feed on it directly, pecking at a mammal’s wounds to keep them open ( source ). Mostly just oversized grey mammals there, not too many birds. On the one hand, an adult will take nearly 100 blood-engorged female ticks in a day.

The bodies of seven sea lions with bullet wounds were recently found on the Nisqually River. The animal protection group Seal Sitters says a necropsy showed that the sea lion had suffered a shark bite and had twisted intestines in addition to a bullet wound. On Monday, a sea lion was found dead on West Seattle’s Lincoln Park beach.
