In the most of Europe, Brown Bear is a mythical creature that lives only in mediaeval tapestries and folk tales. In the European Union there are only 10,000 mature bears (source: IUCN). Not much further, on the new tarmac that ends 6 km before the Gramos village, we find muddy bear footprints crossing the road.

Rarer than Tigers: the Indian Wild Dog

Further down the road, we reach a derelict building with a large veranda hidden among the trees – an abandoned hunting lodge (if I were in a situation to invest, I would choose to upgrade this into a luxury wildlife lodge). These days, the species shares habitats with Tigers, Snow Leopard, Bears, etc. It is too early to show.

My attention was drawn upward by the elegant flying-knife form of an Osprey bearing a large fish. Harassed by the Ravens, it landed on a snag halfway up the cliff and hunched over its prize protectively. It flared its wings, and the Osprey flared to match but refused to abandon the fish.
