A parent bird’s instinct to feed and protect their young is very strong, and they will not willingly abandon their babies. Mites will eventually kill the bird. It needs to be properly medicated and triaged. Most likely the bird will need to be medicated for a few days “just in case.”. Child brings home a baby bird.

Because whenever I encounter one of these insects I’m either trying to avoid it or kill it, not take a picture of it, and this was the only uncopywrited photo I could find. Why am I posting a photo of a hippoboscid on a Red-tailed Tropicbird, a bird I’ve never rehabbed? It’s not good. How could things be worse? I’ll tell you how.

One is Tylenol (the human pain medication) — a completely selective feral-cat poison. Ted not only did not call on anyone to poison cats but he pointed out that Tylenol is not registered for use in killing cats. Pretty standard. He also quoted a biologist pointing out how extreme the TNR people are and gave a few examples.
