This is a project that clearly spanned decades. It’s a very mixed chapter. Remove Phragmites and replace it with cattails. Another big year memoir?

The causes were the usual reasons for island extinction—deforestation by both humans and invasive plants that crowded out native plants, hunting, and invasive rats, mongoose, monkeys, and, of course, feral cats. I would dearly love to see an Ivory-billed Woodpecker, and I think our Carrie deserves to observe a Great Auk.
