It appeared that many of the birds that we had seen on earlier visits this year had abandoned the area due to the huge expanse of water. It is highly likely that the Glossy Ibis will have a significant breeding colony close by, not dissimilar to 2017. It really can be too wet for ducks! Glossy Ibis in flight. Young Giant Frogs.

I do not get too many comments on my blog posts, but it seems that whenever I write about jacanas – whether in Africa, Australia, or Asia – there is an unusually high number of reactions (well, maybe one or two rather than the usual zero) from female readers. They have expanded their range through Indonesia and into Australia and is found in post breeding dispersal as far north as South Korea and Japan. The following decades continued the great expansion, and it was recorded breeding in Canada in 1962 and Chile by 1970. There are two main subspecies, the nominate B. coromandus.

This past week has seen thousands of shorebirds roosting on Reddell Beach having abandoned Simpson’s Beach near the port now our winds are starting to change as the season changes. You are then able to position yourself behind the shorebirds and enjoy their magnificent breeding plumage!
