Further flooding across Roebuck Plains

It appeared that many of the birds that we had seen on earlier visits this year had abandoned the area due to the huge expanse of water. It is highly likely that the Glossy Ibis will have a significant breeding colony close by, not dissimilar to 2017. It really can be too wet for ducks! Glossy Ibis in flight.

Because, as this book demonstrates so well, it is sometimes important to look back in order to move forward. It’s a very mixed chapter.

Flock to Marion

Birdlife South Africa has previously done two of these types of trips before, previously called Flock to Sea – Namibia in 2013 and Flock to Nowhere in 2017, in partnership with MSC Cruises. About half of all breeding Wandering Albatross nest on the Prince Edward Islands. Which makes it a haven for seabirds….and and seabirders.
