Kirtland’s Warbler in Central Park

Third, Kirtland’s Warbler has only recently made the New York State checklist with two sightings in 2014. ( Fourth, not seeing a Kirtland’s Warbler in Central Park would mean that eventually I would have to make a trip to Michigan, the only place where they breed in any numbers, just to see a Kirtland’s Warbler some day.

Hong Kong Trip Report: February 2014

I visited Hong Kong from February 20-27, 2014. Mai Po Nature Reserve : world famous locale for shorebirds, waterfowl, waders, and wetland birds; wintering grounds for certain endangered species. Hundreds massing at Mai Po, many coming into breeding plumage. Lots and lots of birds! 9 Little Grebe. 10 Great Crested Grebe.

A Birder Reads a Scientific Paper

Several years ago, I read about the enormous colonies of breeding birds in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands and I did some research to satisfy my curiosity. ( Google Scholar is an excellent resource and free full-text PDFs can be located for many papers, particularly when research is taxpayer-funded. It is helpful to have a sample paper.
