Paradise Regained

I would have guessed it would be the first species to abandon this now-disturbed site. It wasn’t until a later Pino Real trip, back in 2014, that I saw my first Black-headed Siskins. Finding this elusive and beautiful species at Pino Real kind of put me “on the map” with my wonderful group of Mexican birder friends.

Germany’s Great Bustards and how to see them

Since then, we have seen a marvellous recovery, with an estimate of 123 in 2012, 145 in 2013, 165 in 2014, 197 in 2015 and now in 2016, around 232 Great Bustards roam the wilds of Germany, nearly doubling their number within just a handful of years! Follow the track through a gap in the pine tree plantation and immediately turn right.

Come@Me: Don’t Mourn for Extinct Birds

O’Sullivan informs us that a fertile egg is finally produced (not clear if it’s from The Stud or the other male, the Bronx Zoo only has two males) and abandoned and successfully nurtured by a pair of Ring-necked Doves. On the WCS web page, Ms. What happened to Thelma and Louise? Or any of the other female Pink Pigeons (there are 8!)?
