Birding Villahermosa’s Urban Parks

I photographed the first of only two Northern Parulas ever reported in my state, way back in 2013. And then there was a Green Heron , not only showing us its nest, but also an egg. Still, this sort of wildlife experience is available in pretty much any Mexican city. But obviously, I haven’t seen one since then.

So, all this makes birding this place an occasionally less than pleasant experience. One interesting paper argues that contrary to what might seem logical, cuckoos do not aim to lay eggs specifically into the nests of those parrotbills whose egg color and pattern match their own.
