I have been so impressed by our NWRs that nearly five years ago, an incredible wildlife photographer and my friend Ingrid Taylar and I began a campaign to create a new funding stream for our beleaguered refuges; the Wildlife Conservation Pass Project. The book is organized into ten chapters, framed by a Prologue and Epilogue focused on Weidensaul’s banding experience in Denali National Park. His participant observations connect to his own research experiences, providing history and perspective. Weidensaul traveled to each location to witness the research in process.

Lost Animals: Extinction and the Photographic Record: A Book Review

I ache that I will never see what the photographer has seen, but hope that maybe if I try hard enough I will see some kind of echo of this experience in the image. It’s a lot harder to ignore conservation campaigns to save habitat when you’ve seen the ‘photographic record’ of what happens when you do.
