I suppose a case could be made for renaming California’s two avian endemics – the Yellow-billed Magpie and the Island Scrub-Jay – after the state to pull it into a tie with Hawaii.

Now that Hawaii is in the ABA Area , the next additions should be Puerto Rico and the U.S. The Hawaii vote made it clear that that the ABA Area is about political borders, not geographical or ecological ones, and the two Caribbean territories have long been part of the United States.
