This is a poor photo I took of this pair’s nest back in 2009. We have been assured by the California Department of Fish & Wildlife (CDFW) that they are watching this nest also. The new nest is still but a ghost of what the old nest looked like. That is what the Migratory Bird Treaty Act is meant to do.

In April 2009, unseasonably cold weather froze two whopping crane eggs. The zoo blamed human error for the deaths, saying it didn’t have the expertise to manage the fish and that a lack of dissolved oxygen led to the deaths. And an incident in June 2009, while it didn’t involve death, certainly drew controversy.

With regard to cruelty and suffering, it's clear from the film that the human animal has been profoundly negatively affected by climate change, but there is no attention given to nonhuman animals. But they dismiss food. I think those are the only references to diet. There was a focus on Copenhagen, particularly post show, as it is upon us.

This species prefers wetlands and its numbers have been decimated due to a combination of habitat destruction caused by human population growth and illegal removal of birds and eggs from the wild for the pet and zoo trade. This plain used to be little affected by humans, being grazed by just a few cattle, goats and camels.
