The decrease in numbers has been accompanied by fragmentation of the breeding range and is continuing to affect all populations.

Spoon-billed Sandpipers nest only in the far north-east of Russia. In 2000, around 1,000 breeding pairs were known, but by 2009, the number had plummeted to just 120-220 pairs, a decline of 88%. Tags: birds hunting endangered species.
