Thank all that is good and holy in the world that the abomination that was 2016 is finally in the books. Here’s hoping that 2017 is a much better year than 2016! All of 2016 only netted me one new species for Queens, a Greater White-fronted Goose. I will see at least 500 species for the year.

Over 3,200 photographs have been used, most showing species in their habitats. There is also text, distribution maps, a dark red bar “warning” about similar looking rare species, and conservation symbols. So, how do you find the species account for Kestrel if falcons are not placed between woodpeckers and parakeet?

In addition to splits, selected rare visitors have been added (Lesser Sand-Plover, Zenaida Dove, Red-vented Bulbul and African Collared-Dove are some of the species new to the East book, Streaked Shearwater, Stonechat, Red-flanked Bluetail and Japanese White-eye are some of the West adds), and selected exotics.

This all started way back in 2012 and several of us continued on in 2013 , 2014 and 2015. However, it is interesting that some bird species can be seen in January one year and for various reasons may not be observed until much later in the year on other years. This list was last updated January 10th 2016.

This all started way back in 2012 and several of us continued on in 2013 , 2014 , 2015 , 2016. On Christmas Day we did a bird list around Broome and although we also found over one hundred species on both that day and on New Year’s Day the lists were quite different.
