They look crap but presumably offer some protection for the chicks, though not from each other (see the murderous activities within the nests in my previous post ). Tiphys died either of a snakebite or of a mysterious illness but he was not killed by either a tiger or a rhinoceros. Lucky him, right? Though he ended up dead anyway.

This is irksome, as the premise is that we need to save the animals (and which ones is an interesting discussion) because we will suffer if they are gone. For only $450,000, we could buy almost all of the habitat neded to protect Ecuador's remaining frogs. But again, he's a conservationist, so none of this is a surprise.

This doesn’t mean we let them run wild, for we need to protect ourselves. Suppose it were discovered that with proper training lions and tigers could live on zebra-flavored soy products. Should vegetarians promote a society that trains lions and tigers to eat such meat substitutes?
