Shanghai is located on the coast of the East China Sea and lies right on the East Asian–Australasian Flyway. A former World Wildlife reserve in Nanhui was simply turned into agricultural land. After all, China`s President Xi Jinping recently stated that “We must protect this planet like our own eyes”. And yet it is.

They look crap but presumably offer some protection for the chicks, though not from each other (see the murderous activities within the nests in my previous post ). Lucky him, right? Blue-throated Bee-eaters build nests on sticks sticking out of the water. At between 4 pm and 6 pm, to be exact. Though he ended up dead anyway.

The boat Captain got us right in close. After the owners contacted the Royal Socieity for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), looking for an explanation as to where the heck all these birds came from, it was determined that the farm would be used as a feeding station. When were visiting Smoo cave, this one was right in the cave entrance.

While it makes a passing attempt to say not all scientists are like these monstrous fiends (or truly arrogant, as she dubs them) it mostly focuses on these monstrous fiends simply to prove that scientists in wildlife conservation can be monstrous fiends, particularly compared to the environment-loving oil industry of Alaska. Best guess?
