Last month, I wrote about hypothesized relationships between passerines, parrots, falcons, and seriemas , noting a need for further research on the subject. Seals can mimic humans, you've heard of Crows and Parrots mimicing human speech but Seals can to, one Harbor seal named Hoover was able to mimic his owners voice and could say stuff like "Get over here!" Deer, cattle, camel and goats are more closely related to dolphins and whales then they are with horses.

At sea there are also New Zealand Sea Lions and Southern Right Whales. The centre has a daily feeding of wild Kaka , making it easy to see this large parrot. In actuality, you’ve lucked out, you’re near The Catlins , a dramatic area of well preserved temperate rainforest.

On the subject of parrots, I have seen no less than ten species of parrot in the suburbs of Sydney, from the massive Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo to the beautiful Crimson Rosella. Along with Humpback Whales you have the chance of seeing Antipodean Albatrosses , Wilson’s Storm-petrels and Providence Petrels.

While studying, he also worked on various conservation/research projects (parrots, wagtails, vultures, and anything else that flew) and ringed thousands of birds. Dale studied scarlet macaws, and worked in their conservation, for three years in southern Costa Rica, followed by a year in the Caribbean working on Whale Sharks.

The hotel we stayed on was on the shore, from which you could watching passing seabirds, including serene White Terns , as well as summering Humpback Whales! Tonga is famous for its whales, and there are opportunities to swim with them in the northern islands. Further down the coast Grey Noddies and Brown Boobies nest on the cliffs.
