I like this opinion piece from the Christian Science Monitor which calls for an "Endangered Species Hour." The Christian Science Monitor rightly points out that citizens and consumers need to get involved in endangered species protection, because at the CITES level, it's all about money and international politics.

The Little Big Year-week 46: All this fun comes to an end

When we returned to Tucson, from the Bahamas, I was approaching a milestone number, 1300 bird species, and drove myself hard, climbing, hiking, searching, and driving all over the state of Arizona looking for those last eight birds. By 7:30, two of the owls starting calling back and forth across the small ravine, and I had my 1300th bird!

The Little Big Year 2018: Best Birds of the Year!

In the end, I truly did set out to reduce the number of birds that I feature here from 1302, my years total species, down to 10-12. This years bird number 1300, the Whiskered Screech Owl, was found in the dark, in a snow storm, and no photo was gotten. For me, one of the birds at the top of this last would be the Speckled Tanager.
