The Latin species name of the Kalij Pheasant is leucomelanos , meaning “white” (leukos) and “black” (melanos, both Greek words). This turned out to be nice for one researcher who thus could do the research for her Ph.D. North Dakota. South Dakota. Examples: California. Connecticut.
