Audubon’s Hog Island Audubon Camp attracts birders of all skills levels every summer and Acadia National Park, Monhegan Island, Machias Seal Island, and Scarborough Marsh are nationally known birding hotspots. And not so new, I’m looking forward to using them. There are 461 species on the Maine checklist.

I’m lucky that these once-common North American nightjars regularly pass over my house in upstate New York twice a year, both during their northbound spring migration and even more so in the fall on their way south. Undoubtedly to some people the new cardboard container represents a vast improvement over tradition.
