Natural areas include Pelham Bay Park, Van Cortlandt Park, Woodlawn Cemetery, New York Botanical Garden, and the Bronx Zoo.

For some reason, even though there are Mandarin Ducks in zoos throughout New York City, this escapee has become an internationally known tourist attraction, even heading the New York Times list of “Five Times the Internet Was Actually Fun in 2018.” May 12th was the Sandy Hook (N.J.)

4 Responses to “Domestic or Ganky Geese&# John Mar 6th, 2011 at 9:12 pm I see goose hybrids regularly since the local, nonmigratory Canada Geese happily interbreed with the domestic geese at a county park’s zoo. Cats Are Still Public Enemy Number One, For Birds The New York Times and Tweety have it absolutely correct.

While it’s no longer possible to see this regal macaw soar gracefully through the Brazilian skies, to be able to worship them—even from afar at one of the conservatories or zoos—would be a dream, at last, come true. I worked with a pair of motmots at a US zoo and fell in love with their vibrant colors and unique tails. Wicked, right?

We have photographs and newspaper obituaries of Martha, the last living Passenger Pigeon, who died after a lifetime in captivity, mostly in the Cincinnati Zoo. Avery’s trip through Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York holds more promise. Or the absence of legal protection.
