In addition to the hundred or so species of birds I regularly find here, there are Desert Foxes, Bobcats, Mountain Lions, Desert Bighorn Sheep and Mule Deer. Brown Pelicans. Here are a few of the birds we spotted last weekend. Of course, our Northern Mockingbirds are one of the ever present desert finds. Black-throated Sparrows.

Week 30: We return to Summer Lake

This group of American White Pelicans were good enough to stop right where I wanted them to, to get this shot. In the same shallow water as the pelicans, there were several hundred American Avocets. In addition to the birds, we saw Mule Deer, Beaver, Muskrat , and Mink. Part of this loop goes right by the old barn.

A visit to Dog Lake

Mule Deer have always been pretty common in this area, but I got quite a surprise when I cleared a small hill in the road, and nearly ran over a male Pronghorn Antelope , right in the middle of the road. The first was the presence of 10-12 American White Pelicans.
