To inflict death or pain on animals for scientific or medical research is wrong morally, and ought to be prohibited. This does not mean that animals may never be deliberately harmed or become subjects of research. They may be used in benign research such as teaching chimpanzees to understand and use sign language.

But I want to be able to argue about it intelligently, citing science, not just morals. And, in this day and age, do we really need to be stuck with this archaic and barbaric method of research? I've finally decided to take the plunge and really learn about animal experimentation. Many times tests fail. It's essentially a crap shoot.

Beloved family pet Dalmatian, Pepper, is stolen, and after several weeks of searching is discovered to have been experimented on at a hospital and died on the table when researchers tried to implant her with an experimental cardiac pacemaker. By the end of my time as researcher, I was performing behavioral experiments on humans.

and an accountant and an economist and any other "expert" that uses their field to claim a moral authority. This is one of the reasons why we are still on the losing end of the battle with animal researchers. It doesn't mean that you have the moral authority to tell me that I must support animal testing because you know better.
