Marine life. There are so many fronts on the war for animal rights (and I'm increasingly believing that "war" is the right word for it) and often times it's hard to know what to do. The protection of marine animals may fall under "environmentalism," but these are artificial divisions. And who ingests them?

We support two ocean protection organizations: People for Puget Sound (local) and the Ocean Conservancy. I understand that they are trying to encourage people to eat fish and other marine life that are not part of a collapsing fishery. The purpose is to protect ocean species as a whole.

It's in response to the pathetic CITES conference which basically screwed marine animal protection. The Christian Science Monitor rightly points out that citizens and consumers need to get involved in endangered species protection, because at the CITES level, it's all about money and international politics.

The day was sunny and calm (a novelty), and the time of year is right for seals. They are now protected by Taputeranga Marine Reserve , a marine reserve created in 2008 and to protect marine life around Wellington. This time I was determined. In the distance you can see Red Rocks- access denied.
