But one of the most important aspects of these advances in new-age birding is the fact that they have grown hand-in-hand with the almost exponential growth in citizen science. Clever buggers those real scientists.

At least in the northeastern United States, their rate of so doing is high, according to research I summarized here. Duncan chose a mammal! At least she contributed to science… My Best Bird of the Year was a Snowy Plover , which I first spotted along the Florida Panhandle. I love participating in citizen science!
