Snow leopards aren't actually leopards, they are actually more closely related to tigers than actual leopards hence why people usually say lions, tigers, jaguars, leopards, AND snow leopards when identifying the panthera genus. • Just some facts I think are interesting to share with :).

They are not necessarily the biggest African animals, but represented those that were considered a real hunter’s worthy prey or “game” – the African Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhinoceros, Leopard and king of the jungle, the Lion (which of course doesn’t inhabit jungle but savanna!). They live for up to 100 years.

For you and me, there are about 200 bird species, but for proper tourists, there seem to be only five species in the reserve: Bengal Tiger , Leopard , Sloth Bear , Indian Wild Dog (Dhole) and the Gaur. One of them has a scarred shoulder, claw marks, but not big enough for Tiger – probably a Leopard.

After a few hours we guesstimated that the pack had moved south and after checking the shooting range (where the park rangers tasked with the unenviable responsibility of protecting the park’s rhinos practised their art) we joined the road to the less touristy southern part of the park. We were stunned, simply stunned. No rest though.

Other wildlife includes Asian Elephant , Tiger , Leopard. Other wildlife includes Asian Elephant , Tiger and Gaur (highway 37 passes through the park and the rhinos and wild elephants can be spotted straying near the road). Birdwise, it is recommendable year-round, although winters are quite cold. The best season is March to August.

Tall grass, grass in burnt areas, leaves stems, small mammals, large mammals, invertebrates, birds, bird eggs, even hyena feces (that’s the Leopard Tortoise). The Big Five–Lion, Leopard, African Buffalo, African Elephant and Rhinoceros–were historically the main mammal attraction of Kruger.

It’s the only park I have ever been to that not only have I seen all five of the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, African Buffalo, White Rhino and African Elephant) in, but seen them all on the same day. Leopards are also awesome and I saw two at Madikwe. Having been to some other parks in Africa, it’s an improvement.
