The cuisine was magnificent, especially lamb. Great Spotted Woodpecker – Dendrocopos major. Eurasian Green Woodpecker – Picus viridis. The bear walks are relatively easy and, while possible in sneakers, some light ankle-support hiking shoes might be preferable. Also, trekking poles proved useful.

Birdmania at the Cano Negro Bird Count, Costa Rica

“Bird Count at Cano Negro” was too mundane to portray the boat rides, mosquitoes, remote habitats, the surprise lamb chops lunch, and other situations. Rain came and went but it cooled things down and also gave us a chance to sit down and enjoy a wonderful, home-cooked meal of rice, beans, and lamb!
