Mites will eventually kill the bird. Call and transport the bird to a bird rehabber ASAP. It needs to be properly medicated and triaged. Most likely the bird will need to be medicated for a few days “just in case.”. Child brings home a baby bird. Gone from nest for several hours. A hummingbird found on the ground.
