In the Far East they keep birds of prey which they use to capture other animals such as foxes and rabbits. The quail, guans, ducks and pheasant are hunted for their meat. Little boys kill thousands of birds each year with slingshots. The illegal bird trade kills thousands of birds each year just in the manner they are smuggled.

I also watched a red fox bury her mate after a cougar had killed him. These birds can learn to pull a string to retrieve a short stick, use the stick to pull out a longer one, then use the long stick to draw out a piece of meat. People would often express surprise that I, someone that cared about wildlife conservation, would eat meat. The island was being ravaged by rabbits that were destroying every last tree, threatening the future of three lizards and two snakes. Not from an environmental perspective but from a “don’t you like animals?”
