Let’s take Singapore’s Changi International Airport as an example; it is a huge hub airport with large numbers of people passing through in transit to Australia, Indonesia and south-east Asia. Anyone with more than a couple of hours to kill could easily make a quick birding foray out from the airport.

Those who harvest are unfortunately myopic, seeing only the instant gratification of the meal or the kill. Those that are out to kill this species for their own pleasure.

Also as video … eBird does not seem to be very excited about the Buff-bellied Pipit , calling it a “drab songbird of open country” I heard that the pipit tried to get a more favorable review from eBird by inviting them to an all-expenses-paid luxury trip to Indonesia, but eBird refused.

Without further ado, here are our Best Birds of the Year for 2015… Jochen makes us all jealous with a bird that most of us would kill to see. During my previous five trips to Indonesia, I only heard but never caught a glimpse of three species. 2015 was great and here’s hoping 2016 will be even better.

As it is critically endangered (there are only about 100 left), I think it can be forgiven for killing the occasional Pale Thrush (which is listed as Least Concern). Unfortunately, Hen Harriers die disproportionally near British Grouse moors – most likely killed illegally by people hunting grouse for sports ( source ).
