This ruled out some excellent species like Cape Eagle Owl, Violet Wood-hoopoe, African Finfoot and Half-collared Kingfisher and I was still left with 36 species. This was tough because this excluded species that occur in two countries within South Africa’s geographical area, Lesotho and Swaziland.

The aptly named Fire-bellied Woodpecker drummed above our heads and a Blue Cuckooshrike sang out the loudest as its beautiful song echoed around the forest. Chocolate-backed Kingfisher , sometimes seen from the canopy walkway Woodland Kingfisher – A very common species, but always a pleasure!
