Nordmann’s Greenshank photographed hunting on the Cairns Esplanade [Ken Cross]. I would be away from my family for a time and my visiting in-laws from Tasmania….Perhaps To underline the mystery of this species in 2019 a Nordmann nest was discovered; the first in 40 years! This would really be an I.D.I.O.T.

Plume hunting raged supreme 150 years ago, when egret feathers were part of a worldwide trade in feathers and other bird parts, used for women’s hats and other articles of clothing (but mostly hats), delighting the upper classes and practically wiping out bird species.
