Wildlife conservation is concerned with protecting wildlife at the level of species or perhaps population. One of the first examples I ever encountered was in the books of Gerald Durrell, the famous conservationist who was an early pioneer of the roles of zoos in conservation.

We have photographs and newspaper obituaries of Martha, the last living Passenger Pigeon, who died after a lifetime in captivity, mostly in the Cincinnati Zoo. Or the absence of legal protection. We have a lot of source material. What is amazing is that each of these three books is very different in content and tone.
